She kept saying how we stopped Al-Qaida in Iraq and how the surge has been so successful. What she, and other Rethuglicans conveniently forget to mention is that there was NO Al-Qaida in Iraq prior to the invasion. As a matter of fact, Iraq, unlike other "friends" of ours in the region was a moderate state - albeit with a ruthless dictator at the top (not much of an exception, especially when it comes to our other friends in the region).
So, chronologically speaking, the Boosh Administration invaded a sovereign county under the false pretenses of finding WMD (Oedipus complex in actuality), didn't find WMD so they switched to democratizing the occupied country, when that didn't pan out so well they then declared complete victory by calling the "surge", which was so sorely needed due to not having enough forces to begin with, a total success. In my book, that's called a circle-jerk!
Saddam was no Mother Theresa, but he wasn't the worst of the lot either (http://www.amnestyusa.org/all-countries/page.do?id=1041024). He wasn't worth the spillage of our soldiers' single drop of blood, let alone their lives - not to mention the State treasure, if you want to add insult to injury.
